Einstein's Grandniece
I wholeheartedly support the establishment of the Princeton Einstein Museum. Currently, there is no Einstein Museum in America. When Albert and Elsa Einstein fled Germany and the Third Reich in 1933, Princeton and the Institute for Advanced Studies became their permanent home for the remainder of their lives. It is a fitting place for a museum honoring this great man. On a personal note, his home at 112 Mercer Street, Princeton, was my mother’s destination when she fled Germany in 1939 at age 18. It was her cousin Albert Einstein who provided her with the affidavit of support she needed in order to leave Germany. Einstein similarly rescued my grandparents in 1940.
Princeton is also important because it was here that Einstein advanced the ideas behind many of his fundamental humanitarian projects such as support for refugees (e.g. International Rescue Committee), his work for pacifism, peace, and his work regarding the atomic bomb. It was here that he established himself as a leader in the fight against racism and antisemitism. It was here that we see him develop into a leader who used his bully pulpit to press the world to be a safer, gentler, more equitable place for everyone.

“Albert Einstein lived in Princeton for 22 years. I support the plan to build a museum here focused on his science and legacy.”

“When Einstein settled in Princeton and became a member of the new Princeton Institute for Advanced Study, his great prestige drew others and helped make the Institute a world treasure. It is a source of inspiration for younger visitors, and a refuge for more advanced scholars who can finish that book or refresh their minds. An Einstein museum of science would be a most appropriate way to remind our community of this example of Einstein’s influence, and tell visitors about it.”
